Quality & Value – The Truth About Manufacturing
We get it—many pellet smokers, including Traeger and Grilla, are now manufactured in China. We made the tough decision to go with Z Grills because they offer the best bang for your buck. While we’d love to offer an American-made option, the price point is simply too high for most consumers. Our goal has always been to introduce as many people as possible to great BBQ, and Z Grills allows us to do just that.
Traeger vs. Z Grills – Which One is Better?
Both brands are excellent, with thousands of great reviews. However, when comparing price vs. quality, Z Grills is a no-brainer. Traeger has a strong brand name, but with Z Grills, you’re getting nearly identical performance at half the cost.
How to Set Up & Burn-In Your Z Grill
First-Time Startup
- Remove all racks, grease trays, and covers.
- Open the hopper and grill lids.
- Turn the controller dial to shut-down cycle and power it on.
- Set to smoke and wait for the fan to start.
- Check that the auger is rotating and that the ignition rod is heating up.
- Add 4.5 lbs of pellets to the hopper (not full).
- Run the auger by turning the dial to high—pellets will drop into the fire pot.
- Once you see a small pile of pellets, ignite them by turning the dial to shut-down cycle, then back to smoke.
Burn-In Process (Required Before Cooking)
- Reassemble the grill (grates, trays, etc.).
- Set the controller to high and let it run for 45 minutes.
- Expect an odd smell for the first 10-15 minutes—this is normal as oils burn off.
- Turn to shut-down cycle and allow the fan to run for 10-15 minutes.
- Once off, wipe the racks with a moist cloth.
- Cover grease trays with heavy-duty aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
